There are 3.2 million software engineer jobs this year. Your resume competes against hundreds per role. In my years reviewing engineering resumes for FAANG companies and startups, the difference between a callback and silence comes down to one thing: impact metrics.
In 2026, companies use AI-first screening that rewards machine-parseable resumes. StylingCV ATS Inspector and Architect agents design resumes that pass both algorithmic filters and engineering manager scrutiny. 95 percent ATS pass rate. 6 million users. 4.8 star .
What Engineering Recruiters See in 7 Seconds
Your resume gets glanced at not read. Recruiters scan for current role title, tech stack keywords, years of experience, and one standout number. If those are not visible in 7 seconds, next candidate.
The 4-Part Framework
1. Technical Skills Optimized for Search
Group skills clearly: Languages like Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, Rust. Frameworks like React, Node.js, Django, Spring Boot. Cloud and infrastructure like AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform. Databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis.
2. Experience Bullets That Quantify Impact
Weak: Developed RESTful APIs for the payment system. Strong: Architected a distributed payment system handling 2 million dollars monthly transactions achieving 99.99 percent uptime through circuit breaker patterns.
3. Projects for Early Career
Include 2-3 projects with tech stack, repo link, and impact. Built a real-time chat app serving 500 concurrent users with WebSocket and Redis pub-sub.
4. Education
Degree, university, year. After 3 years experience, education moves below skills.
Critical Mistakes Engineers Make
Listing technologies you barely know – you will be asked. No quantified impact. Generic summaries. Missing GitHub and LinkedIn links.
